This guide takes you from choosing work to confirming your first submissionThe record created when work is submitted. A Campaign organizes the work, a Task is the specific item you claim, and a Submission records what you hand in. Review and earnings follow after submission.
If Your first contribution appears below the Home greeting, select Quick guide for a three-step overview, then Walk me through it to follow a moving guide pointing to CampaignsA developer's data-production project and its settings, Contributions, and Earnings. The walkthrough opens only when you request it.
Close or Escape pauses and saves your current step; choose Continue guide to resume. Finish guide or Don’t show again hides the Home entry for your account across devices. You can still replay it through Help → Getting started in the upper-right corner. Help → Page tutorial explains the current page. If saving fails, retry when prompted. Completing the guide does not satisfy campaign requirements or grant a taskA specific item a contributor claims or enters reward.
Before you start
Open the Contributor portal and sign in. A new account first shows Complete your profile (or Confirm your profile if details were imported): fill in or review the details and select Save Information. A complete profile is required before you can join a Campaign. Be ready to read the task instructions and provide the required materials. Once you choose a Campaign, complete the participation requirements it lists.
Courses, profile information, and credentials serve different purposes. Complete the requirements for your chosen Campaign; there is no need to finish every course or verification first.
1. Choose a suitable Campaign
Open Campaigns in the sidebar, then open a Campaign to read its description, publisher, running state, and requirements. Check that you can provide the requested work.
Read pay together with the specific Step's unit and acceptance conditions. Actual earnings are recorded separately after work is processed.
2. Check the participation requirements
Before joining, check the participation requirements in Getting started and inspect each missing requirement. You may need to complete profile information, provide a credential, accept an agreement, or pass a specified course. If an invitation code is required, use the Campaign code supplied by its publisher.
After completing a requirement, return to the Campaign and check its status. Requirements are evaluated separately: completing a course can leave other requirements outstanding.
When the page allows it, select Join campaign. Then open My Work and find the Campaign's work row.
3. Claim a task
Check four fields in My Work:
| Field | What to check |
|---|---|
| Step | Which kind of work you will perform |
| Availability | Whether work can currently be claimed |
| Pay | The displayed pay and the unit it applies to |
| Your quota | Your allowance for this work |
Select Start for new work, or Continue to resume an existing task. Claim next task checks the currently claimable queue. After joining, you may still encounter an empty queue, a quota limit, or a paused Campaign.
4. Complete and submit the work
Read the Task's instructions, materials, and required fields before answering. Check which tools are permitted and whether AI use is allowed.
While working, watch the draft's save status. Wait for an in-progress save to finish. If saving fails or the workspace is offline, restore the connection and confirm that the draft is saved. To return later, use My Work → Continue and check the restored answers.
Before selecting Submit, check the required fields and the content you intend to hand in. Saving preserves a draft; submitting sends the work into processing. The task guide explains claim expiry, pauses, and draft recovery.
5. Verify your submission
Open Contributions, find the matching Campaign and Step, and open the record:
- In Overview, check the Submission ID, Campaign, Task, and Submitted time.
- In Submitted content, inspect the answers or files actually saved.
- In Activity, check the Submitted event and subsequent processing records.
If the network response was unclear, check whether this submission already exists before retrying, so you do not submit duplicate work.
Follow the result
Follow the submission result in Contributions, and check your earnings in Earnings. Submission, acceptance, rewards, and payment are recorded as separate stages. After acceptance, check the actual earnings and payment state.
If you cannot continue, contact Humanbased support with the Campaign, Step, operation time, and a redacted error message. Keep passwords, verification codes, and complete task materials out of the support request.
