As a contributor, choose a suitable CampaignA developer's data-production project and its settings, then claim a specific TaskA specific item a contributor claims or enters within it. Joining a Campaign and claiming work are separate actions. Even when you meet the participation requirements, task availability, your quota, or a paused Campaign can prevent a new claim.
Choose work in Campaigns
Open Campaigns in the sidebar. Search or sort the list, then open a Campaign to read its description, publisher, and requirements. Check the pay and acceptance conditions for the specific Step before deciding to participate.
Before joining, open Getting started to see any missing requirements. Profile information, credentials, agreements, and courses are checked separately. Complete the requirement requested by this Campaign, then return to check its status. If an invitation code is required, use a valid Campaign invitation code supplied by its publisher.
When Join campaign is available, join and check the participation state shown in the Campaign. This establishes participation; you still need to claim a task. To stop, select Leave campaign in My Work or on the Campaign page: it is removed from My Work, and your completed contributions and earnings stay in your history.
Find available work in My Work
My Work groups work by Campaign. Check Step, Availability, Pay, and Your quota to understand the work, whether you can claim it, how pay is described, and which quota applies.
| Display | Meaning | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Attempt to claim new work; the current state is checked when you act | Open the work and read its instructions |
| Continue | Resume existing work that is still available to you | Check the restored answers and claim state |
| Claim next task | Continue from the currently claimable queue | Confirm which Campaign and Step opened |
| Paused with the campaign | The Campaign is paused | Preserve your work and check again after it resumes |
| No claim action | Nothing can be claimed in this Step right now | Check Availability and the Campaign details |
Pay is the quote for this Step, not your final earnings, and an empty Your quota does not mean the quota is unlimited. A disabled claim action alone does not establish that your reputationA 0–100 score built from a Contributor's recorded work; it sets their tier and pay factor is too low.
When nothing can be claimed
Availability names why a row cannot be claimed right now:
| Availability | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Empty for now | Nothing to claim right now; the queue refills when new work arrives | Check back later |
| Full for now | Every slot is held by work in progress; one reopens if a submission is not accepted | Check back later |
| Available later | Your daily allowance is spent | Return after it resets: 00:00 UTC, or when the countdown on the Campaign page ends |
| Limit reached | You have completed the total allowance for this task | Choose other work |
| Not a match | The Campaign is not a match for your profile right now | Check its requirements |
| Action needed | A required step must be completed before the Campaign opens to you | Open the Campaign's Getting started |
| Campaign paused | The Campaign is paused | Keep work you already hold and try Submit (why) |
| Temporarily unavailable | Your eligibility could not be checked just now | Try again shortly |
| Unavailable | The task cannot be opened right now | Try again shortly; contact support if it persists |
When the workspace refuses a claim
When you open work from My Work and the claim is refused, the workspace shows one of these headlines instead of the task:
| Headline | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing to claim right now | No task in this Step is free at the moment | Select Refresh, or check back shortly |
| Only your own work is waiting | This review step does not let you review your own submissions, and everything queued in it is yours | Wait for someone else to submit; the step opens to you then |
| This task has no free slots right now | Every slot is held by work in progress. One reopens when a submission is not accepted | Check back later; reloading does not free a slot |
| This task's budget is fully committed | The task has work, but none of its budget is free for a new claim right now. Budget frees up only when another claim is released or expires, or a submission ends without payment; paid work keeps its share | Select Refresh later, or choose another task |
| We can't start this task right now | The platform could not confirm this task's reward, so it does not hand out the work. Nothing is wrong with your account | Try again shortly; contact support if it persists |
| This task needs a verified credential | The Campaign requires a credential, named in the message, that is not yet verified on your profile. Trying again returns the same refusal | Verify that credential, then claim again |
| You've used your daily limit for this task | Your daily allowance for this task is spent | Come back when it returns; the message or the Campaign page shows when |
| You've reached your task quota | You have used your total allowance for this task | Choose other work |
| This campaign isn't taking new work | The Campaign is paused or has ended | Check the Campaign page for its status |
| Could not load this task | The task could not be read. Your claim is not released | Select Refresh before the claim expires |
Complete and save your work
After a successful claim, read the instructions, supplied materials, required fields, AI-use rules, and remaining time. The Task may ask you to collect new data, annotate existing material, or verify another result.
The workspace automatically saves your draft. Before leaving, check the save status at the top. Wait while it is saving. If the workspace reports an offline connection or a save failure, restore the connection and confirm that saving completes. Answers still visible in the browser are not proof that the server has received them.
Return through My Work → Continue. Check the Campaign, Step, claim state, and restored answers before continuing. If Continue is missing or your answers are absent, preserve the message and any content still visible locally, then contact support. Claiming a new task may open different work; it does not restore the original draft.
| Notice in the workspace | What to do |
|---|---|
| Offline: saved on this device | Restore the connection; the draft stays on this device until it saves |
| Draft autosave is temporarily unavailable | Keep the tab open; your answers are kept on this device |
| This draft changed in another tab or device | Copy any answers you typed in this tab that you want to keep, then reload. Reloading opens the newest saved version and drops this tab's unsaved edits |
| Your claim on this task is about to end | Keep working on the page; the claim renews while you are active |
| Your claim on this task may have ended | Try Submit; if it is refused, your answers stay as a draft and you can claim a task again |
| Your claim on this task has ended | Submitting will not be accepted. Your answers are a draft; claim a task again |
| This campaign has ended | The task can no longer be submitted; your answers stay as a draft |
| This confidential campaign needs a protected surface | This device cannot run the required protections; continue on a desktop browser |
Understand how long a claim is held
The workspace renews the claim while the page is visible and you have interacted within the last 10 minutes. Returning to the tab counts as interaction; leaving it open unattended does not.
A claim can be held for up to two hours before renewal stops. Stopping renewal and returning the task to the queue are different events. A submissionThe record created when work is submitted can still be accepted while the claim remains yours. Once the task has actually returned to the queue, that old claim can no longer submit it. Check the current claim state rather than relying only on a local countdown.
After an absence, return through My Work → Continue and check the claim and save state. If the claim has expired, use the recovery action offered by the workspace; do not continue editing in an obsolete tab. If the Campaign has finished, repeatedly claiming work cannot resolve that state.
Your daily or total quota controls how many tasks you may claim. The claim's holding time controls how long you may keep one task reserved. Read Your quota in the context of the current Step.
Campaign state also affects submission:
- Paused: new claims stop. When the publisher paused the Campaign or its budget ran out, work you already hold cannot be submitted until it resumes. A Campaign that its publisher is ending also shows Paused, but it still accepts work from claims you already hold, so keep your content and try Submit before you give up on it. If the submission is refused because the Campaign is paused, it is an ordinary pause: wait for it to resume, then check whether your claim is still valid.
- Finished: submissions are no longer accepted, even if the claim's holding time has not elapsed.
Confirm a submission
Check the required fields, task instructions, and answers before using the workspace's submit action. Correct any validation errors. Saving a draft or leaving the workspace does not submit the task.
After submitting, open Contributions, find the matching Campaign and Step, and open the record:
- In Overview, check the Submission ID, Campaign, Task, and Submitted time. Distinguish this attempt from an earlier submission.
- In Submitted content, check the answers or files actually submitted. This is a view of the saved submission, not a draft editor.
- In Activity, check the Submitted event and time. Review and reward events are recorded separately.
If the network response is unclear, check for the matching record before retrying. Do not claim another task or submit duplicate work to resolve an uncertain response. If you cannot establish what happened, contact hello@humanbased.ai with the Campaign, Step, operation time, and a redacted error message. Do not send complete task materials.
Submission, acceptance, and payment are separate stages. Continue with Follow submission results for review and feedback in Contributions, then Understand your earnings for what was actually paid.
